Kinds of Insurance
There are literally hundreds of different types of insurance, and more and more are appearing every year. There are insurance schemes being created for nearly everything under the sun, and in time, you’ll probably be able to get everything you own insured. For now, though, there are some pretty general categories of insurance. This guide can help you to understand your options a bit better and make some decisions about what insurance you want.
Life
Life insurance is the policy to get when you have a family or other dependents to take care of. It makes sure that when you die, there is some money left behind for those who remain. It’s usually extremely affordable, and ends up giving the beneficiaries of the policy a lot more than the policy holder ever paid (in many cases).
You probably don’t need this type of insurance if you are a single person with no dependents. If you have no one to leave money to, or no money to leave, then you would do well to just save your money and invest it into other things.
Health
This can include a whole range of things, from general health to dental and other more specific categories. Under this heading of “health insurance” comes all sorts of policies covering a whole range of subjects, and you could get anything from your medicine to your hospital visits covered.
Health insurance is something that you should never go without, as it really comes in handy in an emergency. If and when something does happen, your insurance policy can save you from going completely broke.
Property
Property insurance covers any properties you own and have insured. This means that you could get refunded in case of a fire, a flood, thievery, vandalism, and much more. If you’ve spent thousands of dollars buying your dream home, then wouldn’t it make sense to have it insured? Get a property insurance plan that covers any and all possible calamities that could occur, and you’ll be protecting something that you hold dear in the best way possible.
Travel
Travel insurance is important to buy any time you are taking a vacation, going to visit family or friends, or really travelling in any large capacity. If you get sick while abroad, lose belongings, or damage something, then travel insurance can protect your from losing money or getting into serious trouble.
Auto
Auto insurance is an obvious category: it covers any damage or problems with your automobile.
Similar insurance policies include cell phone insurance, insurance for large equipment and appliances, computer insurance, and much more.
There are a great many types of insurance, though nearly all of them fall into one of these categories. If you find that you have something you value—for instance, a car, a house, or your life—then be sure to get it insured. That way if something happens, at least you know that you (or someone you love) will receive some financial compensation.
